I have only been out of college for a few years, but I can most definitely reflect on the “please don’t take my picture, I may want to wear this again,” scenarios. That’s right … your photo-opt moments may have been shut down by you going to a lame party and wasting a good outfit. There was a rule, you could only wear a good outfit once. Not your typical day-time clothes, but the awesome, I want everyone to see me in this number.
Now days life is a bit easier; I don’t feel like I have to impress anyone. When I dress, I dress for me. Sure I still have fun clothes that I like people to see me in, but I could care less how many times you see me in it or if you feel like I’ve over worn it. I don’t understand the pettiness of wasting great clothes, especially if they are incredibly cute. Then why only wear them once? It’s your outfit, your penny, you like it, rock it, over, and over, and over again. Believe me, there’s a lot of things you’ll see me re-wearing and re-inventing here on Circa 88.
This reminds me of Jay Z a few summers ago… He and Beyonce (pre Blue Ivy) spent their entire summer traveling. Almost every time I saw him in the tabloids he was wearing this blue collared shirt. At the time it was more than likely his favorite shirt, or the most convenient one he packed. It stuck with me that he didn’t care if anyone saw him wearing the same clothes… he knew was fly, and that’s all that mattered. Remember no one justifies you, but you.
What’s your take on the Repeat Outfit Syndrome? Is that something we do for status or maybe something that changes with age and wisdom? Do you live by the Repeat Outfit Syndrome or are you like me and wear what you want, when you want, and however many times you want? Chime in on the discussion: Comment, Subscribe and Share!
